Our time in Lurgan has been quite eventful! Here’s my attempt to give a quick recap of the past four days. There will be more insight regarding our work in school on tomorrow’s post. Continue to keep us in your prayers – the Lord is moving through this team!
On Sunday we attended Richhill Presbyterian Church, home to some of our hosts Paul, Marina, Alanna, and Thomas. After the service, a light lunch of sandwiches and soup was served at Marina’s house. Since the team was still recovering from the journey on Saturday, we mostly relaxed and enjoyed each other’s company in the afternoon. Before dinner, we went into the heart of County Armagh and strolled around the town. We visited two cathedrals, both named after St. Patrick; one was Catholic and the other was Anglican (pictures below).
The excitement on Monday was all about our adventure to the north coast: The beautiful St. Patrick’s Day weather allowed us to see the stunning coastline in Portrush where we stopped to eat a traditional, delicious fish & chips lunch before going to Giant’s Causeway. We saw three rainbows throughout our time at the Causeway! After taking in the abundant beauty of the scenery and snapping LOTS of pictures, we paid a visit to the quaint Ballintoy Harbour and the ancient Dunluce Castle. The evening concluded with a stroll through Portstewart (County Londonderry).
Tuesday was our first day in school. It was exhausting, yet entirely wonderful. Our team of 10 is divided into three small groups which are leading the students in discussions and activities throughout the week. (more to come on this tomorrow!) I will say that I am thoroughly impressed with each team member’s heart for the students at LJHS. Their compassion to share love with these students is evident in every interaction they have. I am incredibly proud to work with each and every person on this team. In terms of the relationships they have established with students already, “inspiring” would be an understatement.
Today (Wednesday) was another super day at school. Even though it was only our second day, the students are already recognizing and feeling comfortable with us. This evening’s activities were more laid back as we simply enjoyed dinner, games, and fellowship as a team with our hosts. Tomorrow we have plans to eat supper at the principal’s house. How exciting!
Please enjoy the pictures accompanied with today’s post, courteously captured by the fabulous Mrs. Alanna McCrory.
